My partner, Jack and myself have taken part in the annual Bhive competition. This competition is an extremely good opportunity for young creatives who are still in their uni life, figuring out what their next step’s going to be. It opens doors to your career path.
Of course we decided to take a chance and try our very best to make an achievement. The brief this year is to launch a new boutique hotel brand, Odyssey. Stay tuned for my next post of what we did for the brief 🙂
We are one of the 7 winners in the advertising category. Being one of the winners, we are offered work placements opportunities at different agencies. The overall winner in the advertising category is a 2nd year student from the same uni as us, Laura Miele. Click on her name and visit her website. She does amazing works!
Conclusion: We had fun working on this brief and we are absolutely very appreciative for the judges’ comments and feedback. Of course the opportunities given by Bhive and the creative agencies involved!
Here are our pictures at the prize giving ceremony last night at Old Library, The Custard Factory.

Just wanted have a go drawing and painting on black paper. Well of course I am drawing gowns and dresses again..Lol! They’re just too pretty and screaming to be illustrated!
So here are a few wedding gown ideas just in case Tinker Bell wants to get married. You might never know…who knows what’s on Tinker Bell’s mind? Hehe… I just love Tinker Bell, she’s my favorite Disney Fairy!
Thanks for viewing guys 🙂
Decided to do a couple more of the OSCARS 2015 fashion illustrations. Tried to do some lighter colour gowns today. Didn’t quite turn out how I pictured them in my head, but it was fun drawing these gowns.
Thanks for viewing guys 🙂
Another one for tonight. Jennifer Lopez in gorgeous Elie Saab’s.
Thanks for viewing guys 🙂
Stayed home today and tried some new drawing styles. I’m absolutely in love with gowns and dresses! So I was looking at OSCARS 2015 Red Carpet. There were many many beautiful, or I should say stunning dresses! I grabbed my brushes and paints to start drawing. Here I have Felicity Jones and Scarlett Johansson. Of course, I need to add a little of a shimmer glimmer and glitter to the dresses, no ther reasons, just thought it’s more magical with it. LOL!
I’m quite happy with the outcome. Thanks for viewing guys!!
Hello dear followers,
It’s been a while since I last posted anything on my wordpress. I was caught up with my assignments and all. Finally I have handed them in today! Pheew!
I decided to share one of the works that I’ve been working on for my negotiated studies project because what I found out while working on this project was really shocking and devastating. I came to know about Greyhound Racing when I was walking along new street in Birmingham one day. It was right outside Primark where a little blue booth by Birmingham Greyhound Protection caught my attention. It had beautiful dogs with them at the booth. The dogs were the ones that caught my attention. I am a dog person, so basically anything that’s related to dogs catches my attention. Anyhow, that was when I decided to find out more about greyhounds and the racing. As I read on what I’ve found on websites and articles, my heart aches. I understand that not all dog owners treat their dogs like what it’s described on the internet, but what some other owners are doing are really terrible. It made me thinking, how could a human being do such cruel things to a poor animal?
You wouldn’t believe what I found and read online.
Below are just the points that I really want to highlight.
1) Overbreed greyhounds for the racing tracks.
2) Greyhounds will be put to trial to see if they’re fit for racing, else they’ll be put to sleep (mostly killed in ways you do not want to know).
3) Greyhounds as young as the age of 15 months will be sent out for racing on tracks.
4) Retired greyhounds with injuries will be put to sleep. Some owners who wouldn’t spend money on vets to put their dogs to sleep would just abandon their dogs, etc.
5) Racing greyhounds retired at the age of as young as 5 years old, when they can live up to 15 – 16 years!
Honestly, I didn’t know about the existence of greyhound racing at all because back in Malaysia where I came from, there isn’t any that I know of.
Back to my project, so, I’ve been working on a series of print posters to raise the awareness of greyhound racing cruelties. My idea was sparked my the thought of, “why do humans get to enjoy more than any other animals? Even though we are on top of the food chain, we should have more humanity. Every animal should be treated with love, care and respect.” So I started comparing what happens to retired people and retired greyhounds. After having tutorials with my tutor, Ros, here are the outcomes of my final posters.
*NOTE: the names used in the posters are just for design and education purpose, no offence intended.
I tried playing with the first letter in the names to create a stronger feel about the relationship between the owner and the greyhound. I have also emailed my ideas to various practitioners and below’s one of the replies I received from John, who is one of the owners of the anti-greyhound racing website:
“By the way Vanessa, I also think that your pictures of David and Duke and Bruce and Bruno are exceptionally good and hard hitting. That’s just what we need, make them see what is going on, don’t be afraid to show it like it is, and for this reason I want to ask your permission to place your pictures on my websites, www.greyhoundmuses.com and www.nightatthedogs.org“
I feel so honoured and pleased to see John’s reply. Main reason is because I’m able to play a part in raising the awareness about greyhound racing. That is also why I am writing this post today, so that hopefully lovely people like yourself who read it will be able to share and raise the awareness together. Every little effort helps, and for that, I thank all of you who read or share this, in advance.
p.s, I hereby apologise if there’s any wrong information given and any one who reads this feel offended in some ways. It is not my intention to do so. Also I’m sorry if there’s any grammatical or spelling errors.
To be honest, I really missed my diploma days back in Malaysia, especially the time I spent together with my friends. In this foreign land with so many strangers around me, I’m not quite used to it, yet. Also the gloomy weather nowadays isn’t making it any better. Hopefully things will change.
So, I was digging through stuffs I did during my diploma course, and I found this digital painting I did for my marker rendering class. It was my 2nd assignment at that time. I did this assignment at home with one of my course mates, whom I invited for a stay over that day. I still remember vividly how much fun we had talking and laughing together. I miss those days!
For those who have your good or best friends around you, treasure them.
A mermaid is a legendary aquatic creature with the upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish.
Since young I’ve been in love with Mermaids. Thanks to Disney’s Little Mermaid movie. I always thought that mermaids were gorgeous as seen in the movies, until I was told that they’re not as pretty as you’ve seen on the tv. So I’ve searched online about the origin of mermaids, watched the documentaries about them. Even so, I still love mermaids.
So, out of the blue yesterday, I was doodling some sea creatures just to kill some time. I was so engross with it that I did not realize how dark the sky’s been outside. And then, I’ve decided to draw my version of Ariel in Photoshop, with a slightly longer neck (guess that’s going to be my style of figure, :p), but still looking stunning as always with her red hair.
Below are the images of the drawing progress.
I’m currently a 2nd Year student in Birmingham City University, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, majoring in BA(Hons) Visual Communication with Graphic Communication.
I’ve also attended a 3-year course Diploma in Advertising and Graphic Design back in The One Academy, Malaysia. The images below are my first ever Digital Painting that I’ve done for marker rendering class, using Adobe Photoshop when I was in my 2nd year back there. It’s still vivid in my mind how my first marker rendering class was. We had to finish the class task in that 3-hour lesson.
First, I traced the outlines of the selected image. Second, applying the base colors. Third, get to the details. Finally, the highlights. I personally had fun and enjoyed picking colors manually. Although it took me like forever to get one painting done, but the final outcome really gives me the satisfaction.
Thanks for viewing 🙂
